Julia Stone Named Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer

Nonprofit finance leader and CPA, most recently President and COO of The Kempe Foundation, will oversee the Foundation’s finance and investment activities

November 5, 2026

Bonfils-Stanton Foundation today announced that Julia Stone has joined the Foundation as Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer. Stone, who began in October, oversees all finance and investment activities for the Denver-based foundation, which supports arts, culture and creative leadership across the region.

Stone brings a deep background in nonprofit accounting and operations. Most recently, she served as President and COO of The Kempe Foundation in Aurora, Colorado. There she oversaw finances, the investment portfolio, compliance and facilities, and advised the CEO and board on capital allocation and long-term strategy.

“Julia understands that how a foundation stewards its resources is part of how it delivers on its mission,” said James-Allan Holmes, President and CEO of Bonfils-Stanton Foundation. “She has spent her career inside Colorado’s nonprofit sector, from auditing organizations of every size to leading one. That perspective will strengthen how we support Denver’s arts and culture community, and how we make sure every dollar we hold works toward that purpose.”

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work for an organization with such deep philanthropic roots in the Denver community. I look forward to bringing my knowledge and experience to the Bonfils-Stanton team to continue the collaborative and innovative path laid by those before me.”

Stone began her career in public accounting, where she audited nonprofits of all sizes and local governments across Colorado. That work shaped her understanding of what organizations need to stay financially strong, a perspective she brings to the Foundation’s support of arts, culture and leadership.

Stone is a CPA and a graduate of the University of Kentucky, where she competed on the Women’s Swimming and Diving team. She has served on the boards of several nonprofit organizations and on school and community committees, and currently chairs the Investment Committee of the Augustana Foundation.

A longtime Denver resident, Stone is a regular audience member at the city’s music and art events. She looks forward to deepening her connection to Denver’s creative community in her new role.
